BRAND BREAKDOWN

BRAND CONCEPT

Before Solite gained its name, it was originally titled “feel good news”. A brand that focuses on its audience’s mental health, valuing the social responsibility in providing purposeful and truthful news.

Highlighting an audience of young adults who are looking for an easy way to receive constructive and positive news first thing in the morning.

LOGOTYPE

In designing the name, incorporating aspects of morning and nature was critical to the brand’s appearance and to conveying its values at a glance. As a result, Solite was born—Sol, like the sun, and lite/lights suggest both lightness and accessibility, reinforcing the brand’s focus on simplicity and ease of use.

Rather than treating the name as a static label, it was developed as a structural starting point for the identity system. The wordmark is constructed from a modular logic, where the “so” component can be isolated and reoriented to generate a secondary logomark system.

This transformation establishes a core design rule: the identity can shift between horizontal readability and symbolic abstraction without losing recognition. The circle acts as a reference to the sun, while the rotated form of the “S” introduces a secondary reading of landscape and water, reinforcing the brand’s connection to natural systems.

BRAND IDENTITY
Inspired by the logomark, the color choices were intuitive. The visual identity features four characters symbolizing joy, hope, gratitude, and calm, which also serve as categories for the app’s feel-good news. However, reserving brown to separate the logo from its characters.

Marketing materials are complemented by nature photos and a characterization of the logomark that always feels fun and fresh.

LIMITATIONS
Using imagery can easily overpower the logo, so finding a balance, whether through overlays or close-ups, will help harmonize the two aspects to avoid clashing. The characters should be used sparingly to avoid being overwhelming.

Since the logomark is a part of the logo, it can look visually redundant when used together. This limitation is important to keep in mind when creating visually engaging marketing pieces, especially since the main part of the logo is a circle.

DIGITAL APPLICATION

Solite is accessible on both desktop and mobile, translating the brand’s message from print to screen through recognizable colors, characters, and simple interactions.

Early concepts in Solite’s digital application involved a login screen, but it was scrapped due to time constraints. If given more time, I would revise this screen as well as the possibility of customizing one’s own Solite avatar, which is hinted at in a previous mobile screen preview.
